On a wild and isolated stretch of the South Wales coast stands Sker House, once a medieval grange of the Neath Abbey before being substantially enlarged in the form of a fine Elizabethan manor house by the Turberville family. Description

On a wild and isolated stretch of the South Wales coast stands Sker House, once a medieval grange of the Neath Abbey before being substantially enlarged in the form of a fine Elizabethan manor house by the Turberville family. Since 1685 it has been occupied for most of the time by a succession of tenant farmers until, in the 1970s, the condition of the building deteriorated and it had to be abandoned.

Heritage lottery funding became available in the late 1990s, and much of the house has now been restored. The film tells the story of how the restoration work was carried out.

Sker has always been a place of ghosts and legends, the most famous being that of the Maid of Sker, Elizabeth Williams. The tale of her doomed romance is told against the background of the restored house in which she once lived and it is said that her ghost still haunts the house.
